Patricia Torres Ray and Jim Davnie Back Andrew Johnson in the Ward 12 City Council Race

October 13, 2013 Minneapolis, Minn. - This Tuesday, Minnesota Senator Patricia Torres Ray and Minnesota House of Representative Jim Davnie will show their support for Andrew Johnson for Minneapolis City Council Ward 12 by hosting a fundraiser for him at Gandhi Mahal.

"I support Andrew Johnson because he has shown a genuine commitment to our community through his work,” said Patricia Torres Ray. “He has been consistently engaged with the residents of our ward, listening to their concerns, so he can represent our voices at City Hall. He will be a great partner to work with."

This fundraiser is the latest vote of confidence in what has become a pattern of strong support for Andrew Johnson by local DFL leaders. Johnson is endorsed by all of Minnesota’s three major labor unions, Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin and all local DFL caucuses. He is also the only candidate for an open seat endorsed by Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak.

Since entering the race last Spring, Johnson has made action a key component of his campaign. When the  devastating storm hit Minneapolis several months ago, Johnson organized local volunteers and spent 36 hours clearing downed trees, helping neighbors to better navigate the local streets. He has also worked to change two city ordinances; one concerning restroom requirements for small businesses and the other targeted towards making it easier for small urban farms to sell their produce. Johnson also had the chance to intervene in a domestic violence assault during one of his many nights out knocking on doors.

“I work hard every day to show the residents of Ward 12 that I am serious about making our City a safe place to live and great place to work and play,” said Johnson. “I truly appreciate the support and confidence of Patricia Torres Ray and Jim Davnie in this race and I look forward to working together with them to address the needs of this community in a comprehensive way. Together we will be a strong voice for Ward 12.”

Johnson is also scheduled to join the other candidates in the Ward 12 race in a debate at the Midtown Farmer’s Market next Saturday, October 19th, at 10:00 a.m. to talk about his track record and outline his vision for the neighborhood.

The Patricia Torres Ray and Jim Davnie fundraiser will be held this Tuesday, October 15th, at 5:00 pm at Gandhi Mahal, 3009 27th Ave S.

Andrew Johnson is currently the President of the Longfellow Community Council (LCC), the largest neighborhood organization in Minneapolis. He also owns a small business, and through it, performs IT services for an educational non-profit.
