Andrew Johnson Endorsed by All Local Labor Organizations

September 25, 2013 Minneapolis, Minn. - On Monday, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) joined Minnesota’s other two major labor organizations in endorsing Andrew Johnson for the Minneapolis City Council Ward 12 seat. This endorsement gives Johnson a unanimous backing by all three of Minnesota’s major labor affiliations.

The AFSCME’s announcement follows Johnson’s earlier endorsements this year by the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation (MRLF) and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). These organizations represent the bulk of Minneapolis’ labor employees, all of which carefully vetted Johnson before weighing in on the Ward 12 race.

In addition to labor's unanimous support, Andrew Johnson is endorsed by all DFL constituency caucuses, the presidents of several Minneapolis boards including the Minneapolis Public Schools Board, several sitting Minneapolis City Council Members, Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin and Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak.

"I am thankful and humbled by the overwhelming support and trust of so many leaders, residents, unions and other important groups," said Andrew Johnson. "It has been a remarkable journey and I am energized by the tremendous support of my neighbors and friends. There is a lot of work to do and I am excited to get started on making our city a great place for families, workers and businesses to thrive."

Andrew Johnson is currently the President of the Longfellow Community Council (LCC), the largest neighborhood organization in Minneapolis. He also owns a small business, and through it, performs IT services for an educational non-profit.
